Ethnic farmers of Mohadevpur upazila in the district have started planting Boro paddy amid labour shortage. They are also facing acute fertiliser crisis this season.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources, hundreds of peasants including ethnic community have started Boro cultivation in a full swing lately due to severe cold like situation.

Some 26,260 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of Boro this season with a view to produce 30,000 tonnes of output, DAE added.

A good number of farmers from the ethnic community claimed that some dishonest dealers have created artificial fertiliser crisis as the farmer have shown more interest to purchase the fertiliser crises for more profit.

They urged the authority concerned to take immediate steps to mitigate the situation.

Upazila agriculture officer AKM Mafidul Islam, however, denied the allegation of fertiliser shortage.
