Dinajpur transport workers withdraw strike

Transport workers of Dinajpur withdrew their strike on Sunday.

They went on an indefinite on Wednesday following a clash with some students of Hajee Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU).

The decision was taken after a meeting between HSTU authorities and transport workers, leaders at the deputy commissioner's conference room.

Deputy Commissioner Mir Khairul Alam presided over the meeting while HSTU registrar Dr Safiul Alam led the university delegation.

Dinajpur Motor Transport Workers Union president Md Rafiq and general secretary Fazle Rabbi were present.

Transport workers enforced the indefinite strike on Wednesday following a brawl between HSTU students and workers of a public bus.

According to UNB, transport workers beat up some students of the university and damaged the university bus, leaving three students injured.

Following the attack, HSTU students blocked road in front of their campus, setting fire on tyres and two buses.

Later, the transport workers demanded compensation for the damaged vehicles and action against the involved persons.
