BOGURA, May 27: Farmers of the district are happy over the good market price of the newly-harvested Boro this season.
Sources said each maunds of the paddy variety is being sold at Tk 800 to Tk 900.
Prices will increase further when the rice mill owners will start their activities on a large scale.
According the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), over 1,90,000 hectares of land were under the farming of the paddy variety with the production target of more than 0.8 million tonnes.
Sources said crop harvest is going amid acute labour crisis.
Growers are expecting to complete the harvest within a week if the weather condition remains favourable.
"I cultivated Boro on five bighas of land this season spending Tk 35000," said farmer Muslim Uddin of Kuraher village under Dupchanchia upazila.
He also said he has already completed harvest and got a good yield.
Deputy Director of DAE Protul Chandra Sarker said peasants got a bumper Boro yield this season.
He expressed the hope farmers of the area will enhance Boro cultivation in the coming years.
Meanwhile, BSS adds: In Panchagarh, Farmers of the district are very happy over the bumper Boro production. They are also delighted as they are getting fair prices of their produce.
The Department of Agriculture extension (DAE) officials here said today that 33,000 hectares of land had been brought under Boro cultivation in the district with fixing the production target of 1,34,700 tonnees of rice.
They said DAE provided good quality of Boro seeds among the farmers at free of cost and imparting trainings to the farmers to produce bumper Boro yield.
The Boro paddy is being sold at Tk 750 to Tk 800 per mound in the local markets.
Farmer Ferdous Ali of sadar upazila said he had cultivated Boro paddy on two bighas of land and got 45 maunds of paddy, adding he achieved net profit Tk 20,000 after expending all expenses.
Deputy director of DAE Md Samchul Huque told the news agency that low land is good for Boro cultivation and Panchagarh is one of the low land districts. He also said favorable weather condition was another criterion in terms of bumper Boro production.
