BOGRA, Nov 12: The snake bean (Borboti) growers of the district are delighted over the good market price of their produce this season.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), around 430 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of the vegetable this year. The Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) provided quality seeds among the cultivators of the area.
Each kg of fresh snake bean is being sold at Tk 40 to Tk 45 in the retail market while the wholesale price is at Tk 30 to Tk 35.
Market sources said traders purchase the item from the farmers directly to send to large wholesale markets across the country.
Sub-assistant agriculture officer of DAE Faridur Rahman said, "Borboti farming is profitable. We encourage the growers to cultivate the vegetable commercially."
The official expressed the hope that more lands would be brought under the cultivation of the winter delicacy in the coming seasons.
