A Faridpur mobile court on Friday sentenced 41 fishermen to 15-day imprisonment for catching hilsa in the Padma river defying the ongoing government ban.
A mobile court led by executive magistrate Sajal Chandra Sheel conducted the drive at Char Nasirpur, Diara Narikel Baria, Dheukhali, and Akuter Char in Sadar upazila of the district from early Friday till 10:00am and seized 12 maunds of hilsa and 0.80 million (8 lakh) metres of current nets.
The mobile court also arrested 41 fishermen and sentenced them to 15-day jail each.
The seized hilsa fish were distributed among orphans.
The government has imposed a ban on catching, selling, transportation, and hoarding of hilsa from October 1 to October 22.
