The government of Saudi Arabia has provided 200 metric tonnes of dates to Bangladesh.
Generally, the Saudi government offers dates to all Muslim countries every year before Ramadan but they could not give dates before the last Ramadan because of their internal problems, said a ministry handout.
“Those dates received from the Saudi government will be sent to the distressed and poor people at upazila level,” Zakir Hossain Akanda, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, said.
Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Shah Kamal received the dates from Saudi Arabia Deputy Consul Saeed Al Gahtani at his secretariat office today (Sunday), said a BSS report.
