Contraceptive prevalence rate almost static in Bangladesh

Contraceptive prevalence rate in the country is almost static for the last five years, according to a latest estimation.

The ‘Report on Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics 2017’ showed that the rate was 62.5 per cent in the past year which was 62.3 per cent in 2016, 62.1 per cent in 2015, 62.2 per cent in 2014 and 62.4 per cent in 2013, respectively.

The prevalence rate is lower in the rural area than urban area, according to the statistics.

For instance, it was 59.4 per cent in rural area and 66.3 per cent in urban area in the past year.

The contraceptive prevalence rate is generally defined as the percent of women of reproductive age who are using (or whose partners are using) a contraceptive method at a particular point in time.
