Canada is concerned about the situation in the Rakhine State of Myanmar and thanked Bangladesh for hosting Myanmar refugees.
Canadian International Development Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau made the remarks during a meeting between Foreign Ministry AH Mahmood Ali, reports UNB.
She said Canada would keep supporting Bangladesh’s position in this regard and it would continue to support democracy in Myanmar.
The two ministers held a meeting on the UNGA sidelines on Monday, said the Foreign Ministry here on Tuesday, reports UNB.
Mahmood Ali briefed him about logistical issues and the fact that local people are also taking care of refugees.
He urged the Canadian minister to keep sustained pressure on Myanmar military and mentioned that Canada could take action in line with EU resolution that was adopted recently.
The Foreign Minister also mentioned that the EU had postponed a trade delegation which was supposed to visit Myanmar.
