Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on Tuesday has recommended scrapping road permits of CNG run autorickshaws after expiry in Dhaka and Chittagong.
To this end, the mechanical engineering department of the university sent a report on the autorickshaws to Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).
BRTA Director Md Nurul Islam said they have forwarded the report to the road transport and bridges ministry, reports bdnews24.
“They (BUET) have said considering the current condition of the CNG-run autorickshaws it will not be prudent to extend the term of these vehicles. They have analysed everything,” Nurul said.
He said BUET asked not to extend the term of the 2002 model autorickshaws, which expired in December last year, but have a lifetime until Mar 31 following a three-month extension.
According to the BRTA director, BUET also recommended not to renew registration of the autorickshaws launched in 2003 after these vehicles expire on Dec 31 this year.
