Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) on Tuesday published a family directory on safe food consumption aiming to make the nation a healthy one.
The directory was published at an event in the conference room of the BFSA in the city.
BFSA Chairman Md Abdul Qayyum Sarkar said primarily 80,000 directories would be distributed while a total of 1.0 million families would get it in the coming months.
The directory has a dietary chart, instructions on nutritional food intake, awareness of unhealthy foods, prevention ways of harmful pests and bugs at home, usage of surplus food, precaution on buying frozen, processed, canned, junk foods and so on.
He said the private sector has been patronising the initiative.
Food minister Shadhan Chandra Majumder said the government’s all concerned ministries and agencies are working in a harmonised way to supply safe and enough food to the people.
Food Secretary Ismail Hossain put emphasis on mass awareness through both mainstream media and social media to reach the directory to every homestead.
He said an upazila chairman, upazila nirbahi officer and upazila food officer will now be the focal point to distribute the directory.
“Though we have already uploaded its virtual version on websites, higher demand for the hardcopy is unavoidable,” he said.
Head of the Directorate General of Food Md Shakhawat Hossain also spoke at the event, among others.
