Dhaka will gear up public diplomacy through its missions across the world to counter misinformation about Bangladesh, said Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Monday.
“Some countries seem to be unhappy with us. We are trying to find out the reasons behind their unhappiness” the minister said while talking to newsmen in his office about the goals of his ministry in the New Year.
“Bangladesh maintains the policy of neutrality and it wants friendship with all the countries.”
The foreign minister said enemies of the country are carrying out propaganda by spreading wrong information.
“We need to present the real picture to the world to counter this propaganda. We have been weak in public diplomacy but now we are planning to strengthen it” Dr Momen added.
He said that attracting investment and to create more employment for Bangladeshi people will be another major goal of his ministry.
“Bangladesh is a land of opportunity for investors and we are trying to attract foreign investment by presenting these opportunities”.
The country’s missions throughout the world have been directed to fully engage in economic diplomacy to ensure growth, he informed.
Dr Momen felt that last year his ministry had done a good job through successfully holding two great events- the Birth Centenary of Bangabandhu and the 50th anniversary of the independence of the country.
In the New Year foreign ministry will also focus on climate change issues’ he said.
The minister also pointed out the Bangladesh missions have been asked to give their best to provide services to expatriate Bangladeshis.
