Bangladesh logs 1,134 new COVID cases, highest in four months

Bangladesh has recorded 1,135 new cases of COVID-19, the highest in a daily count since Feb 25, taking the overall tally of infections to 1,959,209.

The death toll from the disease climbed by one in 24 hours to 29,134, according to the latest government data released on Wednesday.

As many as 8,536 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 13.30 per cent.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka logged the highest number of cases, with 1,080 infections.


Another 122 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,906,105.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 97.29 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.49 per cent.

Globally, over 540.58 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 6.32 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019, reports bdnews24.com.
