The government has launched Bangabandhu Wage Earners' Center in Dhaka, aiming to provide temporary accommodation to the expatriate workers.
Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed inaugurated the centre at Lanjanipara Barua in Khilkhet, near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, on Friday marking the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said a press release on Saturday.
Wage Earners Welfare Board Director General Md Hamidur Rahman presided over the event, reports UNB.
Speaking at the inauguration programme, the minister said that the government has set up the centre for the welfare of the expatriates.
He said he hopes this centre will reduce the sufferings of the workers going abroad or returning to the country.
He also urged the authorities concerned to ensure the quality of services at the centre.
The Wage Earners Welfare Board under the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment set up the center on 140 katha land.
Expatriates can spend a night at the centre at cost of Tk 200, the release added.
Now, accommodation for 48 people is available at the centre and it has separate accommodation facilities for men and women.
It also has counselling, first aid, hospitalisation and free internet facilities.
To avail of the facilities of the centre, expatriates can apply directly or online with a fee of Tk 100.
A single worker can apply for one seat at a time and can stay for maximum of two nights.
