Bahrain government has lifted Covid travel ban on Bangladesh paving way for hundreds of Bangladeshi workers to return to their workplaces there.
Commenting on the development Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said, every day hundreds of Bangladeshis, who returned from Bahrain, ask when Bahrain would open up.
“Today we have good news. Bahrain decided to remove Bangladesh from red list countries starting from October 10, 2021.”
Bangladesh recently requested the Bahrain government to take back expatriate Bangladeshis who are stuck here due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The foreign minister made the request during a telephone conversation with his Bahrain counterpart Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani in January.
Bahrain last year regularised visas of 30,000 irregular Bangladeshis amid the pandemic, during the nine-month general amnesty from April to December.
According to reports, over 3,000 Bangladeshi workers, who returned home from Bahrain during the pandemic, are stranded here due to the restrictions and expiry of visas.
Meanwhile, the minister also informed that Bangladesh vaccine certification is now recognised by the British authorities.
“Our mission contacted them and described our processes and now they have recognised our vaccine certification, which will be effective from 4am Monday, October 11” he added.
