An unidentified assailant has shot and injured a Bangladesh Bank deputy general manager, who is also a son-in-law of Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayon Chandra Chanda, at his home in Khulna.
The central banker, Probhas Kumar Dutta, was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital with bullet wounds following the attack that took place at around 10:15 pm on Friday, police said.
Sonadanga Police Station OC Md Montazul Haque said the attacker fled after shooting the 56-year old at his home in the port city’s Bakshiparha.
Citing doctors, the OC said Probhas was out of danger.
After losing his wife last year, Probhas lived on the first floor of his two-storey home alone. They have no children.
Probhas’ younger brother and his family live on the ground floor.
OC Montazul said Probhas, a DGM at the Khulna branch of the central bank, went out in the evening and returned just after 10:00 pm, bdnews24 reported.
“A man fled after shooting at him when he was entering his bedroom.”
Police are working to trace the attacker and find the motive behind the attack.
