ADB President due Feb 27

Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Takehiko Nakao will pay a two-day visit to Bangladesh from February 27.

During the visit, the ADB president will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, and other senior officials, according to an ADB announcement.

He will also visit selected ADB-assisted projects involving power, education, urban infrastructure and rail transport sectors.

Bangladesh joined ADB in 1973, and in 1982 it became the first ADB member to host a field office.

To date, the ADB provided more than $20 billion loan, grants and technical assistance to Bangladesh. The approved non-sovereign loans, equity investments and guarantees have totalled $985.28 million.

The ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration.

Established in 1966, it is owned by 67 members—48 from the region.
