Actress Nawshaba on four-day remand

A court in Dhaka has granted a four-day remand to interrogate detained actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mazharul Haq passed the order on Sunday when Bikash Chandra Pal, sub-inspector of Uttara Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case produced her before the court with seven-day remand prayer.

According to UNB, the court also rejected the bail petition of Nawshaba as her lawyer sought bail for her.

Earlier, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed from Uttara area in the capital on Saturday night over spreading rumours on Facebook over attack on protesting students.

A text message of Rab said that a team of elite force detained Nawshaba and took her to Rab-1 office for interrogation over her Facebook live.

In a Facebook live at around 4 pm on Saturday, actress Nawshaba claimed that the attackers killed two students and gouged out the eyes of another at Jigatala intersection.

In her Facebook live, the actress requested people to get united, take to the streets to 'protect' the students as they were attacked by Chhatra League activists.

The students who were managing the traffic at Jigatala intersection and Mirpur in the city came under attack on Saturday afternoon.

A group of 25-30 youths, said to be Bangladesh Chhatra League activists, swooped on the students with sticks in front of the BGB Jigatala gate around 2pm, leaving some of them injured.

Later, a chase and counter-chase took place between the two groups several times.

Finally, members of Border Guard Bangladesh came out of the Pilkhana headquarters and brought the situation under control.
