ACC team visits Kamalapur railway station

A team of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) made a surprise visit at Kamalapur Railway Station on Sunday.

The team visited the station to check irregularities in the sales of advance train tickets ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Bangladesh Railway authorities started selling the advance train tickets on Friday, reports UNB.

Several hundred holidaymakers were seen collecting tickets for12 June journey standing in long queues at the railway station today. Tickets for June 13,14 and 15 will be available on June 4, 5 and 6 respectively.

The ACC team, led by its Deputy Director Mahmud Hasan, wanted to know from the ticket seekers whether they had any compliant.

In reply, many of them complained that designated employees at the counters repeatedly tried to sell tickets to those did not stand in queues.

The ACC team then went to Station Manager Sitangshu Chakraborty and visited the ticket counters together with him.

It instructed the manager to bring discipline and transparency in the ticket sales.

The ACC team also asked the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) team deployed at the station to stop the sales of tickets in the black market and bring discipline in the ticket sales.

At the end of the inspection, the ACC team distributed stickers and leaflets among the ticket seekers who were also urged to complain about any irregularity, nepotism and bribe transactions in the purchase process using ACC hotline 106.

ACC Director General (Administration) Muhammad Munir Chowdhury said, "The Commission is constantly monitoring the Eid ticket sales. Action will be taken if any irregularity or corruption is found."

The return tickets for the journey of 19 June will be available on10 June and that for 20 Juneon11 June, for21 June on June 12, for 22 Juneon13 June and for 23 June on 14 June and for 24 June on15 June.
