Awami League candidate Abdus Salam Murshedy has become the Member of Parliament (MP) from Khulna-4 constituency in an uncontested by-election.
The former president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) was declared lawmaker on Tuesday after the deadline to withdraw nominations ended.
Returning Officer Yunus Ali made the announcement this afternoon as there was no other contender for the by-election to the constituency, reports bdnews24.com.
Three candidates had collected the nomination papers but only Murshedy, a former footballer, submitted his.
The two other candidates were the Jatiya Party’s SM Anisur Rahman and independent candidate Sheikh Habibur Rahman.
Envoy Group Managing Director Murshedy got the ruling Awami League’s ticket for the by-election slated for September 20.
The Khulna seat covering Rupsa, Dighalia and Terokhada areas fell vacant after the death of the Awami League’s SM Mostafa Rashidi Suja on July 26.
