The government has imposed a 65-day ban on fishing off the Bay of Bengal, in order to preserve the fish stock and boost their breeding.

In this regard, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock on Sunday issued a gazette, signed by its Deputy Secretary ANM Nazim Uddin.

It said the ban would come into effect from May 20 and last until July 23, for ensuring sustainable fishing in the country.

Vessels engaged with maritime fishing will not be allowed to catch fishes during the mentioned period, the ministry's gazette mentioned.
