At least 538 workers were reportedly killed in 399 workplace accidents across the country in 2021, a survey on Friday revealed.
The study, conducted by Safety and Rights Society (SRS), said some 432 workers were killed in 373 workplace accidents in the previous year.
The highest number of deaths occurred in the construction sector in 2021 as 138 workers died while they were on duty, said SRS.
The study was revealed at a press conference organised by SRS, held at its head office in the city on the day.
In the manufacturing sector, some 112 workers died while they were on duty.
Sekender Ali Mina, executive director of SRS presented the key information of the study while legal officer of the organisation Hasina Khanam also spoke on the occasion.
The study was conducted on the basis of reports collected from fifteen national dailies and eleven local newspapers.
