About 51.2 million records of rights or Khatiyan, necessary documents for identification of land, are now available online.
Land Secretary Md. Mostafizur Rahman gave the information on Sunday, pointing out that the accessibility of these documents would prevent tax evasion and misuse of land.
He said this initiative would help to find illegal ‘out of class’ lands, to strengthen the verification of land classes and to boost revenue collection significantly.
The secretary came up with the information while addressing a deal signing ceremony between the Ministry of Land and Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd. (DPDC) of the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources at Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday.
DPDC Managing Director Engineer Bikash Dewan attended the function, among others.
Additional Secretary (Field Administration) of the Ministry of Land Pradip Kumar Das and DPDC Company Secretary Md. Asaduzzaman has signed the MOU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Under the MoU, the land ministry and DPDC will share information to verify the actual use and actual owner of lands.
The MoU has also given importance to the protection of the personal information of the landowner and the electricity consumer.
Senior officials of the ministry and DPDC were present on the occasion.
