A total of 38 landless and insolvent freedom fighters (FFs) have got small dwelling houses named ‘Bir Nibash’ in sadar, Lohagara and Kalia upazila of Narail district.
Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) constructed the houses spending over Tk 31.3 million and handed them to the freedom fighters, a LGED official said.
Each pucca house has one living room, two bedrooms, one kitchen and a verandah. The floor area is on 500 square feet, in addition to a washroom, tube well, toilet, livestock-shed and poultry-shed.
Bidhan Chandra, chief executive engineer of LGED, Narail, said the government is implementing the household project across the country under “Construction of Households for Landless and Insolvent Freedom Fighters” project.
Under the project, the government will build a 500 square-feet pucca house with facilities of water supply and sanitation.
The freedom fighters of the district got the houses as donation from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reports BSS.
Freedom fighters Jalal Ahamed and Saidur Rahman expressed their satisfaction and gratitude to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after getting the houses saying “We don’t have any shelter. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is providing us with monthly allowances keeping in mind our suffering. Now we got our shelter”.
