Motorcycle accidents in the country witnessed an increase by 21.17 per cent and fatalities by 19.28 per cent this year compared to last year, according to a report.
At least 2,097 people were killed and 1,286 others injured in 2,003 motorcycle accidents from January to October this year in the country while some 1,758 people were killed in 1,653 such mishaps in the same period, according to a report published by Road Safety Foundation (RSF).
Among the victims, some 16.54 per cent (347 people) were in the age group of 13 to 17 years whereas some 73.10 per cent (1,533 people) were between 18 to 50 years.
A total of 764 students were killed in the accidents, which are estimated as 36.43 per cent. As many as 92 pedestrians died in motorcycle collisions, which is 4.38 per cent of the total fatalities.
The RSF prepared the report based on news published in nine national dailies, seven online news portals, and electronic media.
