11,198 prisoners take skill development training in 2016

More than 11,000 convicted prisoners took part in the skill development programme in 2016.

A total of 11,198 prisoners received training in the year before last, according to latest prison population statistics recently published by the prison department.

Electronic & audio visual repair, furniture making, tiles fitting, and tailoring, among many others, on which they had their skills developed.

The skill development programme, conducted at the Prisoners Rehabilitations Training School on the premises of Kashimpur Central Jail, aims at reducing prisoners’ recidivism through rehabilitation.
