10 BD youths to attend One Young World Summit 2018

Ten Bangladeshi young change-makers are going to attend the One Young World Summit 2018 at the Hague in Netherlands from October 17 to 20.

Like each year, the ten young people, who are contributing positively to the society, have been selected from among hundreds of applicants to attend the OYW Summit accompanying Professor Muhammad Yunus who will deliver keynote speech at the summit on October 17. Other luminaries like Kofi Annan and Mary Robinson are scheduled to attend as well, said a press release.

On July 26, Professor Yunus held a special briefing meeting with the ten young delegates, reports UNB.

The Summit is the premier conference for young people working to make positive social impact in communities.

Five girls and five boys from different universities in Bangladesh have been selected for OYW 2018 focusing on their leadership quality and commitment to work for the social good.

Four of the delegates are from Grameen Bank borrower families currently studying at various universities in Bangladesh like Patuakhali Science and Technology University, University of Dhaka, Eastern University and Grameen Caledonian College of Nursing with Grameen Bank education loan.

The selected team will participate in the sixth arrangement of the OYW event and will work as youth ambassadors from Bangladesh on different thematic issues in future.

The OYW organizes an annual four-day long summit where young delegates, backed by the One Young World Counsellors debate and formulate solutions for the pressing issues the world faces. Every single country of the world sends delegates in the summit.

The One Young World, founded in 2009 by David Jones and Kate Robertson, is a UK-based non-profit organization that gathers together the brightest young people from around the world, empowering them to make lasting connections and knowledge-exchange to create positive social change.

Every year, One Young World Summit invites Professor Muhammad Yunus and Yunus Centre along with a delegation of ten young people from Bangladesh selected by the Yunus Centre to participate in the One Young World Summit.
