The University Of Development Alternative (UODA) has organised a weeklong cultural and sports programmes from Sunday at its campus in Dhanmondi of Dhaka.
The cultural programmes include music, speech competition, Bangla and English debates, wall magazines and photography.
Besides, the sport events include inter-departmental cricket competition, different races and different games for the female students of the university.
Prof Mujib Khan, founder and president of UODA, inaugurated the event by releasing balloons and pigeons as chief guest, said a press release.
In his inaugural speech, Mujib Khan said this programme is a scope for the students to show their latent talents.
"UODA organises this event every year," he said.
Professor Emeritus of UODA Prof Dr Emajuddin Ahmed said university is a place of one-way traffic and one can enter here but can’t go out.
"Some segments of this five-day arrangement may not be similar to your study area. But it is necessary to refresh your brain," he added.
He also said, “There is no difference between students and teachers here. Teachers are senior scholar and the students are junior scholar.”
The programme will continue until January 25 having different types of segments like cricket tournament, song competition, debate, poem reciting, exhibition on faculty-related topics etc.
UODA vice chancellor Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam Sharif, Pro-vice Chancellor Ahmadullah Mia PhD, Treasurer Najakat Ali, Registrar Professor Dr Iffat Chowdhury, Deans of different faculties, head of departments were, among others, present on the occasion.
