UODA holds 6th convocation Thursday

The 6th Convocation of University of Development Alternative (UODA) was held on Thursday at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid presided over the convocation as the representative of President Abdul Hamid, also the Chancellor of the university, says a press release.

More than 1,629 graduates and postgraduates got their degrees from the convocation.

Maruf Hossain, a student of Bachelor of Business Administration programme, was awarded Chancellor Award for his outstanding results.

Besides, 6 students received Vice-Chancellor Award and 14 got Deans Award.

Two former students and two teachers of the university were specially honored for their contribution in respective fields.

Congratulating the graduates, education minister said educated youths are essential to build a prosperous future of a nation.

The minister appreciated the efforts of UODA for ensuring quality education and he hoped it will go ahead to more success and development.

Nahid urged all to follow the Private University Act, 2010 as it was formulated to ensure improvement of quality education.

Former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, also Professor Emeritus of UODA, Prof Dr Emajuddin Ahmed was present as convocation speaker.

He said, the challenge in this century depends on talent, not muscle. Only creativity can ensure a success in this challenge.

University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan was present as special guest at the event.

UGC chairman said this university is well-organised, rich in education and co-curriculum activities.

He hoped new graduates will establish their career with multiplicity of knowledge.

Abdul Mannan urged them to start career with strong confidence, honesty, hard working and deep patriotism.

Professor Mujib Khan, president of UODA board of trustees, said all private universities can ensure permanent campus if the government can coordinate among entrepreneurs and donors.

"A private university can establish well-organised research centres, can appoint skilled teachers from abroad, if there is a permanent campus," he said.

UODA Pro-VC Prof Dr Ahmedullah Miah, Regisrtar Prof Dr Iffat Chowdhury also addressed the programme. Teachers and officials, students and guardians were also present at the ceremony.
