Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu declared that his government would provide 100 scholarships for Bangladeshi students annually from now on, BSS reports.
At a bilateral meeting held in Ankara last night, the Turkish foreign minister made the announcement when Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen placed a proposal for the scholarship, a foreign ministry press release said in Dhaka on Monday.
The meeting was held during a dinner party hosted by Cavusoglu in honour of the Bangladesh foreign minister, who is now in Turkey for an official visit.
During the meeting, the two foreign ministers discussed a wide range of bilateral issues and mutual interests between Bangladesh and Turkey.
Dr Momen urged his Turkish counterpart to take necessary steps for increasing Turkish investment in different potential sectors in Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh foreign minister also urged Turkey to continue its support in the early repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar.
In reply, the Turkish foreign minister assured his support in increasing Turkish investment in Bangladesh as well as in the early repatriation of Rohingyas.
Dhaka north city corporate mayor M Atiqul Islam and Bangladesh Ambassador to Turkey Mosyud Manna were present at the time.
