The launch event of second Fairwork Bangladesh report to be held tomorrow

The Fairwork Report 2022 for Bangladesh will launch on October 17, 2022. The launch event will take place from 3 PM to 5 PM at the BRAC Centre Inn. The key findings of the second Fairwork Bangladesh Report will be shared at this event.

In Bangladesh, with the partnership of DataSense at iSocial, Fairwork has been publishing the Fairwork Report evaluating the working conditions of digital platforms and ranking these platforms based on the five principles of fair work since the last year.

This Fairwork project is based at the Oxford Internet Institute, Oxford University, and the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, and it is currently operating in 30 countries across 5 continents.

This year, workers of nine platforms - Chaldal.com, Foodpanda, Hello Task, HungryNaki, Obhai, Pathao, Sheba XYZ, Truck Lagbe, and Uber - have been included in this study. The scores range from 0 to 1, demonstrating the conditions faced by gig workers in Bangladesh.

A presentation on the introduction of Fairwork principles will be presented by Dr Matthew Cole, Postdoctoral Researcher, Fairwork, Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford.

The findings of this year's report will be shared by Dr Ananya Raihan, Principal Investigator, Fairwork Bangladesh; Chief Imaginator, DataSense, and Raiyaan Mahbub, Research Manager, Fairwork Bangladesh; Research Associate, DataSense.

In the last part of the event, a panel discussion will take place on the current situation of the gig economy in Bangladesh. And the panellists will be - Nazma Yesmin, Director (Research & Development), Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS); Shomi Kaiser, President, e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (eCAB); Ilmul Haque Sajib, Co-founder, Sheba.XYZ, and Razekuzzaman Ratan, Member, National Coordination Committee for Workers' Education (NCCWE).
