The 2020-21 admission session has begun with the A Unit admission test of Dhaka University’s Science Faculty.
A total of 51 public universities across the country will hold competitive admission exams over the next two months.
The four autonomous universities - Dhaka University (DU), Jahangirnagar University (JU), Rajshahi University (RU) and Chittagong University (CU), along with Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), will arrange admission tests on their own.
A total of 20 universities, including general and science and technology universities, will hold admission exams under the cluster system for the first time ever. All the seven agriculture universities will be under a single cluster for the second admission session this year.
On the other hand, three Engineering universities- Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Khulna University of Science and Technology (KUET), have formed a separate cluster for admission purposes.
The ‘Big 4’ - DU, JU, RU, CU
More than 300,000 students will compete for 7,148 seats across five units in the Dhaka University admission test.
The battle has already begun with science faculty (A Unit) and Arts Faculty (B Unit) exams being held on October 1 and 2, respectively. Institute of Fine Arts will hold their exam on October 09. Exams of Business Studies Faculty (C Unit) and Social Science Faculty (D Unit) are scheduled to take place on October 22 and 23, respectively.
JU will hold exams in nine units. All the exams will be held from November 7 to 18.
Exams at RU will commence from October 4 with the C Unit examination, followed by A and B Unit exams in the next two days.
CU admission battle begins with the B Unit exam on October 27 and 28. C Unit exam on October 29, D Unit on October 30 and 31, A Unit on November 1 and 2, and B-1 and D-1 exams will be held on November 5.
BUET and engineering Cluster
The pre-selection test in BUET is scheduled to take place on October 20 and 21. Successful students will then be allowed to sit for the final admission exam on November 6.
CUET, KUET and RUET will hold exams under a cluster which will take place on November 13. All three universities will be the exam centres.
Agriculture universities cluster
All the seven public agriculture universities will hold one exam for all under a cluster, for the second time this year. An admission candidate can choose to read in any of those universities participating in one exam only.
The exam will be held on November 27 and supervised by the central admission committee of the seven universities.
The big cluster of 20 institutions
Among the other clusters, this one, led by the Jagannath University (JnU), is the biggest one with 20 general and science and technology universities. The cluster will take three central exams for three units and students can take part in one of them according to their academic background.
A Unit (Science) exam will be held on October 17, B Unit (Humanities) on October 24, and C Unit (Business Studies) on November 1. Twenty-seven public universities across the country will accommodate the exam.
Textile and others
Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) will hold the admission test on November 12. Admission tests at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University will be held on November 19 and 20.
