The academic activities of Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) has started, aiming to improve and expand scopes of the medical education, research and treatment in the region.
In the preliminary stage, the activities will be operated from its temporary office in Rajshahi Medical College (RMC), reports BSS.
The information was disclosed in a meeting held at its temporary office yesterday with Vice-chancellor Prof Masum Habib in the chair.
BMA local unit President Professor AB Siddiqui and its General Secretary Dr Nawshad Ali, RMC Principal Professor Anwar Habib, Vice-Principal Dr Maohibul Hassan, Director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Brig Gen Jamilur Rahman, Divisional Director of Health Dr Abdus Sobhan and others concerned joined the meeting.
VC Professor Habib told the meeting that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina instructed to quick implement of the university's academic activities for increasing the prospect of treatment in the region.
The university will conduct 90 post-graduate courses under eight faculties from now on, he added.
All the existing public and private medical colleges, dental colleges and nursing colleges and institutes in Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions will be brought under jurisdiction of RMU from 2017-18 sessions, the meeting informed.
Besides, there will be a 1000-bed modern hospital attached to the university. A nursing institute will also be established for creating skilled nurses. Acquisition process of 86 acres of land in Borobangram area in the city is progressing fast.
