North South University (NSU) Finance Club, a co-curricular club under the Department of Accounting and Finance for the undergraduate students of NSU’s School of Business and Economics, is going to organise one of its distinctive competitions, Excelsior 2018, from March 31. It is being co-sponsored by Shimanto Bank. This intra-university competition is mainly subjective to ‘Microsoft Excel’ and its implementations to find the key to solving professional problems. As the career fields are quite competitive, this platform will help enrich the Excel skills of the entrants and help them stand apart from the crowd of competitors.
Excelsior 2018 will have the traditional two rounds. A workshop will be held during the first round where participants will be meticulously taught about the basic functions of Excel. Furthermore, they will be presented with a case comprising of raw information of an organisation such as multinational consumer goods company. The participants will have to effectuate the delicate functions of Excel and put the interpretation of the business problems forward in the initial round. In the second and final round of the competition, the participants will have to solve a chain of Excel problems based on given data. Another workshop will precede the final round, providing knowledge about different intricate and complex functions of MS Excel. Notably, both the workshops will be conducted by the professionals from the club’s strategic partner LightCastle Center for Advanced Learning for this year.
The first workshop will be held on March 31 with the online round of the competition ending on April 2, followed by the second and final workshop on April 6 with the final round of the contest being held on April 9. The winning prize money is Tk 25,000, the first runner up will get Tk 15,000 and the second one Tk 10,000. Also, the top ten finalists will get certificates accredited by the Department of Accounting and Finance of North South University.
Moreover, all sorts of necessary resources, including the tutorial video, will be given to the participants before the rounds. During the workshops, they will be demonstrated about the basic tools of Excel. Therefore, a student who is inexperienced in operating Microsoft Excel can also participate in this competition without any hesitation and indecision. In fact, this competition is going to assist the participants of North South University by giving them a platform where they can enhance and intensify their technical skills. It is not only going to give the students an upper hand in their academic phase, but also in their future work life by augmenting the hard skills of human resources within different professional sectors of Bangladesh.
