A Seminar titled 'JU-ANSO Collaboration and Current Status of ANSO Collaborative Research' has been held at Jahangirnagar University today. The seminar was arranged at the Gallery Room of the Mathematics and Statistics Building of the university.
The research seminar was inaugurated by the Vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Dr Md. Nurul Alam at 11 am.
In his short speech as the chief guest, he praised the Department and Alliance of International Science Organisations (ANSO) for conducting research on such innovative topics.
Professor Sheikh Md Monzurul Huq, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Dr Farid Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, were present as special guests. Professor Dr ATM Shakhawat Hossain from the Department of Geological Sciences represents Jahangirnagar University and ANSO.
After the inaugural part of the seminar, a technical session was conducted. This session was chaired by Professor Dr Delwar Hossain and co-chaired by Professor Dr Khairul Bashar of the Department of Geological Sciences. The Master's Students of the Department of Geological Sciences presented their research papers.
Tonmoy Dutta, an MS student, presented on 'Earthquake-Induced Liquefaction Risk Assessment in The Rohingya Refugee Camps of Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar District, Bangladesh.' In his Research paper, he shows how vulnerable Rohingyas sleep with death.
Ruma Bakail gave her presentation on the Engineering Properties and Mineralogy of Some Slope Samples of the Ukhiya-Rohingya Refugee Camps.
Presentation on research on 'Rainfall Induced Landslide Risk Assessment At Balukhali Rohingya Refugee Camp, Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh' was conducted by Sheikh Jafia Jafrin.
Purba Anindita Khan presented on 'Assessment of Landslide Hazards at Kutupalong Rohingya Refugee Camp Area, Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.'
After the presentation, Dr Delwar Hossain said the students did a tremendous job.
"At the Master's level, conducting such research is unimaginable. I can assure you that this is unparallel to any institution of this sub-continent."
The seminar was organised by Engineering Geology, Geotechnical, Geohazards (EGG) Research Group and the Department of Geological Sciences, Jahangirnagar University.
ANSO (Alliance of International Science Organizations) collaborated with the objectives to establish a link and network with an International Alliance & scientific organisation by enhancing the education and research capability of the JU students and Faculties.
The collaboration creates opportunities for students and young faculties to complete postgraduate research MS/PhD degrees at CAS and other ANSO recognised Institutes with fully funded scholarships.
At least as an approved ANSO member, JU ANSO Representative can recommend 2 MS and 2 PhD researchers each year to pursue higher degrees at CAS or other Institutes in China.
ANSO arranges exchange visits for students and faculties and organises seminars, workshops & conferences for the faculties and students. It supports attaining SDGs using science, technology & innovation between research & educational institutes of the belt and road initiatives, including JU.
