Four applicants to Jagannath University’s ‘A’ Unit – which includes the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Life and Earth Sciences – were found in possession of admission test questions prior to the start of the exam.
A mobile court cancelled their tests after the exams had ended.
“The four were detained prior to entry into the examination centre and had their mobiles confiscated,” JU Proctor Noor Mohammad said.
“The questions on their phones matched some of those on the test. They were then brought before the mobile court.”
The examinees were Shawkat Hossain Chowdhury, Aysha Akhtar Lota, Mehedi Hassan and Nazmul Islam, reports bdnews24.
The four were looking at the questions on their mobiles in front of the university gate before the start of the exam, said an official from the JU proctor’s office who wished to remain anonymous.
The proctorial body then detained them.
The administration allowed them to sit the exam after seizing their phones. Shawkat and Aysha were found after the exam and brought before the mobile court.
Both signed a written confession stating they had looked at the questions before the exam. The court later decided to cancel their exams.
There is no chance the admission questions were leaked,” said JU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mijanur Rahman.
“The precautions we take with bar codes, colour codes and different sets of exams are beyond the capability of any fraud rings,” he said.
“We were the first to adopt the bar code and colour code to prevent leaks. Now other universities are using them.”
The admission exams were held between 3pm and 4pm at 27 examination centres. A total of 59,433 students applied for the 797 seats at the ‘A Unit’.
