IT quality education in 100 schools

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in collaboration with the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Bangladesh (DSHE) held a seminar on "ICT in Education" on November 25, 2019 at capital's RAOWA Convention Centre, says a press release.

The occasion was graced by Professor Dr Prabir Kumar Bhattacharjee, director, Planning and Development of DSHE, Ahreum Go, deputy country director of KOICA Bangladesh Office, among others.

The Republic of Korea has been supporting Bangladesh government's initiative to improve the educational system by establishing IT labs in 100 secondary schools in Dhaka since 2012. The computer labs are being equipped with high speed multimedia computers, projectors and screen, digital camera, USB modem and related IT equipment to help the future generation of Bangladesh to be familiar with IT assisted teaching and learning process.

KOICA first initiated a bilateral project with DSHE titled 'Establishment of IT Labs in Secondary Schools in Dhaka' from 2012 to 2014 with a grant of US$ 3.5 million that aimed to provide learning opportunities for basic computer literacy and ICT education by establishing IT labs in secondary schools in Dhaka and strengthen ICT capacity for computer teachers by providing ICT application education training courses. Under this project, 100 IT labs were established in 100 secondary schools along with providing training to teachers.

To continue this support, KOICA initiated a follow-up project from November 2018 to December 2019 in order to upgrade the system of the computer labs of existing 100 schools with repair, maintenance and training services. Under this follow up project, a refresher training workshop for six days and a seminar on the relevant subject were also conducted by KOICA Bangladesh where 200 teachers from 100 schools were trained on the existing system and software.
