After a month-long preparation and composition, Holy Cross College English Language Club pulled off the Fourth Inter College Language Fest with absolute gusto. The event took place on March 31 and April 01 at the college premises.
The opening ceremony was held on the college premises in the presence of the college principal, Sr Shikha Gomes and the Head of the Student Directorate, Sr Pauline Gomes. It began with the holy prayer by the college students. The Vice President of the club Sumaiya Mahjabin welcomed everyone and Principal Sr Shikha Gomes announced the opening. Over 1,500 students from 60 colleges around Dhaka passionately took part in this festival. The festival was animated with its unique and diverse events: Master of Vocabs, Literary Exposition, Act it out, Wordtoons, Labyrinth of Literature, exploring every branch of classical English literature from every direction. The signature event of this festival was "The Labyrinth of Literature". The segment created one of the most spectacular scenes on Friday afternoon- the teams running around the college compound in search of clues. The spectacle alone proved how inspiring the event was.
At the closing ceremony, held on April 01, guests Dr Arifa Rahman and Nishat Majumder were present. Arifa Rahman, a former professor and director of the Institute of Modern Languages at the University of Dhaka, is currently a research consultant at BRAC Institute of Educational Development. "Holy Cross College groomed me to stand where I am right now and I am sure you, my fellow crossians, are going to be the face of your generation as well," she stated in her speech as she articulated the significance of pronunciation and language in our everyday life.
Nishat Majumder is the first woman mountaineer in Bangladesh to climb Mount Everest. She backed the students to conquer the impossible and to have utmost faith in our endeavours, "No matter how hard life breaks you, you have to keep going. There's no shortcut to success," she said.
Tanveer Ahmed Razeeb, senior deputy director of Marketing and Communication, Walton Digi-tech was also present as a guest sharing his words of wisdom to the inquisitive minds present at the ceremony. The President of the Club Faiza Tasnimah Rafa thanked everyone for their effort.
The winners were congratulated with prizes. The closing ceremony came to an end with everyone singing the national anthem together.
