The foundation stone of Institute of Islamic Education and Research (IIER) building was laid at Islamic University in Kushtia on Saturday.
Vice-Chancellor Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari laid the foundation stone adjacent to the university lake around 2:00pm.
Among others, IU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof M Shahinoor Rahman, Treasurer Prof M Selim Toha, acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif and former proctor and syndicate member Prof M Mahbubar Rahman were present.
The building will have classrooms, teachers' rooms, a guestroom and a conference room, IIER Director Prof M Maher Ali said.
Alimuzzaman Totul, the university's chief engineer, has already finalised the design for the whole project, he added, reports UNB.
