Five meritorious students of the Department of Mathematics of Dhaka University (DU) on Tuesday received the "AF Mujibur Rahman Gold Medal Award' for their outstanding academic results in Bachelor of Science (BS) and Master of Science (MS) Examinations.
DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman distributed the awards among the students as the chief guest at a function held at the departmental auditorium on DU campus.
The recipients of AF Mujibur Rahman Gold Medal are -- Md Shorif Hossan, Amit Kumar Saha, Kartik Mondol, Md Mijanur Rahman and Kamrun Nahar Mily.
Five more students received crest for their excellent performances in National Mathematics Olympiad. Besides, DU Mathematics Department accorded reception to the first-year BS Honours students at the function.
Prof Akhtaruzzaman urged the students to maintain a congenial academic atmosphere on the campus for overall development of the country.
"Students have to equip themselves with moral values for the betterment of the society. You have to be more responsible to your families, societies as well as the country", the VC urged to the awardees.
Trustee of the AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation M Nurul Alam and Chairman of the Department of Applied Mathematics Prof Dr Md Shafiqul Islam addressed the programme as special guests.
Chairman of the Department of Mathematics of DU Prof Dr Amal Krishna Halder presided over the function while Prof Dr Shapla Shirin delivered welcome address, reports BSS.
