The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have announced a Tk 8.6956 billion budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2020-21 at its resumed annual senate session, held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus.
The senate proposed the new budget for the next fiscal year during the annual session on Thursday where Pro Vice-Chancellor (Pro VC) and acting Treasure Prof Dr Muhammad Samad placed the budget with Senate Chairman and DU VC Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.
According to the new budget, the university will spend 55.52 percent of the total allocation for wages and allowances, 22.77 percent for the goods and services, 14.38 percent for the pensions and retirement facilities, 1.09 percent for researches, 2.72 percent for special grants and 3.52 percent for capital sector.
As per the proposed budget, the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) will provide Tk 7.4806 billion and Tk 710 million will come from DU's own sources.
As a result, there will be a deficit of Tk 505 million for the 2020-21 FY.
Dr Samad also presented a Tk 8.4515 billion revised budget for the 2019-20 FY. The total earning is assumed Tk 8.008 billion with Tk 7.298 billion from UGC and Tk 710 million from the university's own sources.
Thus there has been shown a deficit of Tk 443.5 million. Last year, the university gave a Tk8.1042 billion budget.
