The second 'Ahmad Fazlur Rahman Folk Music Fest' was held at Sir A F Rahman Hall of Dhaka University (DU) on Monday.
Ahmad Fazlur Rahman Sangskritik Shangshad arranged the fest at the hall auditorium around 5:30pm, said Mohammad Ashaduzzaman, former house tutor of the hall and programme advisor of the fest.
The members of the association, also the residential students of the hall performed at the fest, reports UNB.
As they did last year, the performers sang the famous traditional folk songs of Lalon Fokir, Hason Raja and Baul songs.
Prof Golam Rabbani, proctor of the university, Dr AKM Saiful Islam Khan, Provost of the hall, house tutors, hall unit BCL president Hafizur Rahman, President of the association Rashedul Islam Tutul and General Secretary Rabiul Haque, among others, were present at the programme.
Sir AF Rahman was a famous educationist, historian, politician, and social reformer. He was also the first Bengali Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, with his tenure lasting from July, 01, 1934 to December, 31, 1936.
As per the decision of the Dhaka University Syndicate meeting on August 21, 1976, the then Hostel-1 was named as "AF Rahman Hall" after the name of the first Bengali Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University.
