The disciplinary committee of Dhaka University (DU) has recommended expelling seven students for different terms over assaulting a student at Salimullah Muslim Hall.
The body suggested to expel the main accused, DU Chhatra League leader and Marketing department student Md Omar Faruk, permanently from the university.
DU Proctor Prof Dr Golam Rabbani confirmed the media about the recommendation on Monday.
The proctor said the disciplinary committee made the suggestions based on probe body report.
"But, the final decision will be taken at the syndicate meeting," he said.
Their expulsion from the dormitory was also recommended, he added.
The committee also recommended suspending Samiul Islam Sami of Sociology, Ahsan Ullah of Philosophy, Md Ruhul Amin Bepari of Mass Communication and Journalism, Md Mahedi Hasan Himel of Urdu and Fardin Ahmed Mughdho of Public Administration department for two years.
All of them are leaders of BCL Salimullah Muslim Hall unit.
It suggested suspending Ariful Islam, a fourth-year student of Education and Research Institute and vice-president of the unit BCL, for one year.
Ehsan Rafiq, a second-year student of Disaster Science and Management department residing in Salimullah Muslim Hall was beaten badly allegedly by some activists of Chhatra League , on the night of February 6.
UNB said, Ehsan is now suffering from poor eyesight in his right eye.
Earlier on February 8, BCL suspended Salimullah Muslim Hall unit Deputy Secretary Mehedi Hasan Himel and assistant secretaries Omar Faruk and Ruhul Amin for their involvement in the incident.
