Bangladesh University Of Professionals (BUP) held a seminar on the topic - ‘Digital Dilemmas: Ethics & Media Accountability in Digital Age’ on Tuesday.
Arranged by the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism, the seminar talked about the recent digital media boom in Bangladesh and how the audience can use digital media more consciously.
The keynote speaker for the seminar was Dr Khorshed Alam, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka.
Addressing the overall change in the digital age, he discussed how to avoid fake news on social media.
Former Chief Information Commissioner of the Information Commission of Bangladesh and the editor of daily Ajker Patrika Prof. Dr Golam Rahman and Miraj Ahmed Chowdhury, Editor (Bangla), Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) were panellists at the seminar.
The panellists discussed how gatekeeping of information is very limited nowadays and how citizen journalism is spreading all around. They also suggested everyone properly fact check any information before sharing it on social media.
After a wonderful and robust question-answer session, the VC of BUP, Major General Md Moshfequr Rahman, spoke as the chief guest.
Among others, BUP high officials, faculty members and students also attended the seminar.
