The Dhaka University Day was observed on the campus on Sunday marking the 97th founding anniversary of the university.
The theme of this year's day was "Higher Education for Inclusive Development", reports UNB.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the daylong programme by hoisting the national and university flags and releasing pigeons at the Mall Chattar in the morning followed by founding anniversary cake cutting.
Speaking on the occasion, the VC said, "Dhaka University teachers and students always played a vital role in any difficult situation of our country. We hope this tradition will continue in the future, too."
After the cake cutting, a procession participated by the teachers, students and staff from all the residential halls was brought out which ended at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC).
A discussion was held at the TSC auditorium at 11am with DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.
DU Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Nasreen Ahmad, Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Samad, Treasurer Prof Dr Kamal Uddin, DU Teachers' Association President Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, among others, addressed the programme.
The DU VC also opened a website to celebrate centennial of the university in 2020.
Around 1pm, a science exhibition was organised by Biomedical Physics and Technology department.
A debate competition organised by 'Dhaka University Debating Society', a friendly cricket match and a photo exhibition organised by DU Fine Art Faculty were held on the occasion.
Manuscripts were exhibited at the DU Central Library from 10am to 1pm.
