Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Scholarship has been introduced for visually challenged students of Dhaka University (DU).
BSEC Chairman Prof. Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam handed over a cheque for Tk 720,000 to DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman at the latter's office on Tuesday.
DU Treasurer Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Chairman of Economics Department Prof. Dr. Mahbubul Mokaddem, Chairman of Mass Communication and Journalism Department Prof. Dr. Abul Mansur Ahmed, DU Teachers' Association (DUTA) Secretary Prof. Dr. Md. Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan and Director of ICT Cell Prof. Dr. Mohammad Asif Hossain Khan were, among others, present.
Under the scholarship programme, 20 visually challenged students of the university will get Tk 3,000 per month.
While speaking on the occasion, the VC stressed the need for bringing distressed, physically and financially challenged students under the social safety net aiming to build an inclusive society and achieve sustainable development goals.
