A workshop, titled The British Academy Writing Workshop, was held on the campus of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in Dhaka recently.

The Department of Law of IUB, in collaboration with Birmingham Law School, University of Birmingham; British Academy and South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS) organised the programme on IUB’s own campus from Friday to Sunday.

Prof Fiona De Londras of Birmingham Law School was the Keynote Speaker of the closing ceremony held on Sunday, said a press release.

In her presentation, Prof. Fiona De Londras discussed her research on ‘Human Rights and Counter Terrorism’.

Following the presentation, floor was open for question-answer session where students participated enthusiastically.

Chairperson of South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS) Dr. Kamal Hossain, IUB Vice Chancellor Prof M Omar Rahman, Chittagong Independent University (CIU) Board of Trustees Chairman Towhid Samad, Prof Matthew Carven from University of London, Prof Kate Bedford from Birmingham Law School, also spoke on the occasion.

Prof Shirin Rai from University of Warwick of UK chaired the presentation session of Professor Fiona De Londras.

The programme ended with vote of thanks given by head of IUB's Department of Law Prof Borhan Uddin Khan and Reader in International Law & Human Rights at Birmingham Law School Dr. Mohammad Shahabuddin.

Education, Science, Technology and Cultural Development Trust (ESTCDT) Chairman and the founding Trust of IUB Abdul Hai Sarkar, former chairman of IUB Board of Trustees Rashed Chowdhury, IUB Finance Committee Chairman  Ashraf Uddin Ahmed, deans, senior faculty members, administration and a large number of students attended the programme.
