The BCS qualified teachers went on a two-day strike protesting government's plan to give teachers of nationalised colleges the same status and benefits enjoyed by them.

The teachers started work abstention on Sunday morning suspending classes, exams and other official activities at all national colleges across the country.

On Friday, the BCS teachers declared the protest programmes for November 26-27 at a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.

More strikes are due to be held on January 6, 7 and 8, according to the announcement.

President of BCS General Education Association Prof IK Selim Ullah said they are demonstrating at their respective institutions with the slogan 'No BCS, No Cadre.'

"We will continue the protests tomorrow," he added.

According to bdnews24.com, the protests have lead to the cancellation of exams for the two days at the National University as well.

The BCS cadre teachers have called on the government to come up with a specific set of rules for assimilation of teachers at these colleges.

The government is nationalising, in phases, one high school and one college in every Upazila that lacked government high schools or colleges so far.

Teachers in these colleges, that have been nationalised lately, are already listed under the BSC cadre. However, the government is yet to decide on their status.

There are more than 15,000 teachers appointed to different government colleges under the general education cadre.
