At least 10,000 primary and secondary teachers get training to conduct online classes

At least 10,000 primary and secondary teachers across the country are getting necessary training to continue with their classes online amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

CodersTrust Bangladesh, an international ICT company headquartered in Dhaka is providing the training free of cost.

The teachers have enrolled through online registrations and the training embarked on Saturday through a webinar inaugural where education minister Dr Dipu Moni spoke as the chief guest.

Aziz Ahmad, co-founder of CodersTrust, joined from his New Jersey home in the USA while Md. Fasihullah, director general of the Directorate of Primary Education, Abdul Karim, former principal secretary to the Prime Minister, Nazrul Islam Khan, former education secretary, Abdul Halim, adviser of CodersTrust, and Siddiqur Rahman, editor of Shikkha.com, joined the inaugural as special guests.

Ataul Ghani Osmani, country director of CodersTrust Bangladesh, also joined the discussion. Shikkha.com is co-partnering with CodersTrust in coordinating the teachers for the training.

Terming Covid-19 a global crisis, Dr Dipu Moni said, “All our usual activities are somehow hampered, but we are not staying idle, we are trying hard to advance with our educational activities in many different ways.”

“Every crisis opens up some opportunities; she opined and said that the covid-19 crisis has opened up the use of information technology for education more effectively in our country.”

“We were already in the process, and we knew that the online education is a must to be incorporated, but Covid-19 has fast forwarded us to do it now,” Dr Moni added.

In the online event, Mr Ahmad emphasised enrichment of education system in Bangladesh through human capitalisation.

Mr Fasiullah said there are 400,000 primary teachers in Bangladesh and they all need training.

“The government itself has taken several measures for training them up. But covering all the teachers is not so easy. It is really nice that the CodersTrust is going to train 10,000 teachers free of cost”, he added.

Mr Halim said corona crisis has opened up the exploration of online education in our country. We have already started using the online system and hope the training of CodersTrust will help the teachers for performing better in the online classes, he added.

Mr Rahman described the aims and objectives of the training program and said that they found the necessities of such training while talking with the teachers across country.

Already 10,000 teachers have enrolled and all of them will be brought under the training process, he informed. Each day three batches consisted of fifty teachers in each will be trained, he added.
