While the COVID-19 has disrupted every sector of the world, mechanical engineers are constantly working to make a difference and fight back against this situation.
Americal Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is an organisation that brings engineers together by helping to grow their network. The latest edition of the ASME body ‘ASME IUT Student Section’ hosted their inauguration ceremony on August 10, 2021. The event was arranged in the presence of Thomas Costabile, the CEO of ASME, and Prof. Dr M. Rafiqul Islam, the VC of IUT.
Networking with fellow engineers is vital for an engineer to develop personally and professionally. The ASME is one of the renowned and oldest alliances of engineers in the world. It is a non-profit membership organisation that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, career enrichment, and skills development across all engineering disciplines.
"ASME means connections and valuable resources. I expect Mechanical Engineers to learn, grow and gain career insight through ASME," said MrCostabile, on the inauguration program.
The Vice-Chancellor of IUT, Prof. Dr M. Rafiqul Islam, hopes that the ASME IUT Student Section would be a place where the students will be able to develop their leadership and technical skills.
"I believe ASME can guide the students of IUT not only to enhance their practical and soft skills but also root them into tolerance, empathy and kindness," he added.
In the ceremony, the honourable head of the Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering(MPE) Prof. Dr Anayet Ullah Patwari, urged the students of IUT to improve their networking by building academic relationships and professional engagements around the world through the ASME community.
The honourable section moderator Prof. Dr Hamidur Rahman, aspires that this student section will become a hub of acquiring and contributing knowledge and innovation with the collaboration and support of ASME. Likewise, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Omar Jah expects to work for the betterment of the world by assembling as a society.
The focal points of the event were the benefits of ASME membership and the evolution and contribution of Mechanical Engineering. The event was organised virtually and premiered live on Facebook with the overwhelming presence of IUT students and reverend alumni.
Over and above, this collaboration of the ASME IUT Student Section sets forth the learning and growing process and gaining career insights for the students. The ASME Student Section plans to adapt and accomplish more in the future by setting new milestones and contributing to the university society’s ecosphere.
