With the beginning of a new year, the country is going to experience one of the largest residential Model UN conferences of the country. Daffodil International University Model United Nations Association (DIUMUNA) is going to arrange "Daffodil International Model UN Conference 2020 (DaffodilIMUN)" which is the club's very first international MUN conference. The conference is a four-day long event being held from January 02 to 05, 2020. The conference is a residential conference which is going to take place at DIU permanent campus at Ashulia.
The organising club DIUMUNA is a student based organisation. The club operates under the framework of assemblies of the United Nations for the intellectual and artistic growth of Daffodil International University students. It is committed to fostering volunteerism among students, their creative abilities, and their logical qualities. It provides its members with training, workshops and various brainstorming activities to participate in various MUN conferences around the world. Furthermore, it also maintains bilateral relations among universities beyond national borders to keep the students up-to-date with the ideas of international arena.
This year, over 300 students are participating from over 50 educational institutions of the country from school, college, and university level. There also are Indian and Malaysian participants. From both national and international level, more than 350 delegates will participate. They will represent different countries and practise diplomacy and the proceedings of the UN.
The theme of the conference is "Empowering Good Governance and amp; Sustainable Development through Youth Partnership 2030". The purpose of the conference is to disprove the common belief that youths do not care about world issues. The conference will give the students of this generation a platform to get them involved with world issues such as Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), good governance, accountability, transparency etc.
The process of the conference will be to simulate United Nations. The conference will have 12 committees-- both residential and non-residential. These committees will be simulated as NGOs. Delegates of different countries will discuss world issues with them. The resolution from discussion and debate will give students a platform to become the future leaders.
DIUMUNA is eager to be the organisation that can equip diplomatic students with comprehension of global issues, public speaking, communication and leadership skills.
